UPDATE: Naked Tokyo: 2009 will take place on Friday, June 26, 2009, at SuperDeluxe in Roppongi.

Naked Tokyo is a series of exhibitions that has showcased the work of an international group of photographers at leading art and design spaces in Japan since its inception in 2002.

In their 2007 show at Roppongi's Super Deluxe, with the theme: Contemporary Portraiture from Tokyo, Naked Tokyo artists were encouraged to explode and expand standard assumptions of portraiture by focusing on self-portraiture, sex, eroticism, and anonymous nudity.

The 2008 show, at Gallery Le Deco, Shibuya, saw an electic mix of work that explored the gamut of modern Tokyo, from culture through worklife, to abstraction and carnality.

Selections from past shows can be seen on this site.

Key members of the Naked Tokyo team have also produced a unique portfolio of work by Japan's leading photograpers, including Eikoh Hosoe and Daido Moriyama. This limited edition Modern Masters of Photography: Japan portfolio is being sold to raise funds for charity
